Renovation Trends for 2024
Be inspired or let us help you blaze a trail! We’ve always got our eyes on the renovation trends.
Sometimes it’s a specific item, or a look. Other times it’s a mood – a feeling that is difficult to put into words. A renovation of our own homes can be a very personal and intimate experience. When given the opportunity to truly create our own spaces, we sometimes falter, worried about making the “right” choices.
But maybe there is no right choice… only right for YOU.
It’s your home, your space, your personality, your vibe.
Tell us what that is, and we’ll help you bring it to life.
Here are a few of the looks and feelings and moods we’ve been hearing about. Maybe it’s time for you to embrace one of these renovation trends… and maybe it’s time you set a new one.
SUNLIGHT
It’s here in full force and we think it should stay that way. Natural light will always make homes better. If have the opportunity to add more (or bigger) windows, we’re behind you every step of the way. Letting the sunlight in makes your space feel bigger, brighter and more open. No matter what cabinetry or finishes you choose, they all look best with a healthy dose of light.
INDIVIDUALITY
It’s time to break free from the norms and build YOUR space! Even though we’re happy to help explore existing trends, the best trend we’re seeing in our work is people feeling free to do something different. Whether that’s bold tile choices, quirky accents, or fresh colours, the sky is the limit when it comes to making your space all about you. Gone are the days of letting someone else tell you what your home should look like. You’re in the driver’s seat and there’s nothing we love more than bringing your new and unique ideas to life.
PERFECT IMPERFECTION
We’re seeing a current renovation trend toward integrating and embracing natural materials, imperfections and raw, handmade looks. Flawless gloss is beautiful but there’s something just so earthy and soothing about wood grain, stone, crafted artisanal tile, textured plaster surfaces, and perfectly mismatched fixtures.
FUNCTION, FUNCTION, FUNCTION
Admit it, you’re tired of spaces that aren’t working for you, so it’s time to change that! We’ve been making kitchens and bathrooms functional for a long time, but what about all those other spaces in your home? Do you have a mudroom to catch all those backpacks and umbrellas and loose scarves? Is your laundry room on a concrete floor in the corner of the basement? What about that cramped corner pantry of yours? The spaces that don’t inspire you are spaces you don’t want to spend time in. How lovely would it be to have a laundry room that makes you happy, a home office that helps you focus, and a pantry you won’t lose anything in? It’s time.
PERSONAL PAMPERING
Maybe it’s all that time we spent staring at our own four walls, but we’re seeing more and more interest in bringing home some of those luxurious treats. Steam showers, deep freestanding tubs, heated floors and towel racks, even integrated sound systems are all being used to built retreats and sanctuaries within the comforts of your own home. There’s nothing quite as soothing as finding an escape from the everyday just steps away.
MIXED METALS
Matching is great, but if you know what you’re doing, there’s a big renovation trend heading toward the intentional mismatch. Hardware and fixtures come in so many beautiful styles and colours… there’s the always-popular and steadfast brushed nickels, the trending matte blacks, and the ever-growing push toward glam with golds and champagnes. How is a person to choose? Well maybe you don’t have to! Mismatching your metals adds visual interest to a space, and a whole lot of bold flair (expertly curated of course).
LIGHT WOODS
Light and bright is the current order of the day. Painted cabinetry (in all colours) is still trending well, but for those who prefer wood (or want to mix and match), we’re seeing lighter options making the top of the list. Heavy stains and deep rich woods are being replaced with natural tones, and barely-there finishes, just enough to enhance the intrinsic beauty of each unique grain pattern.
SIMPLICITY, SYMMETRY + CLEAN LINES
Emptying your space of visual clutter is like taking a big mental breather from the rest of life. Clear countertops (with practical storage for all the essentials, of course), open and airy spaces, minimalist decor, and hidden appliances top the list of desires for many of our new projects. The stuff that makes our lives easier isn’t always beautiful, but trends are toward keeping it out of sight vs having it all out in the open. Don’t let that keep you from having all those things, though. We’ve built cabinets that double as coffee stations or home bars, panels that blend your fridge and dishwasher right into your cabinetry, and drawers and pull-outs to store almost anything you need within reach.
So what are your must-haves? Yes, we watch for the newest renovation trends in the design world, but we think it’s just as (if not more) important to listen to you.
